There are so many elements to this parenting and working and teaching situation so many of us find ourselves in. What to do when your kids have special needs and you have to (try to) teach them? How do we help our children learn while also trying to keep things as relaxed as possible, and get them away from screens sometimes? How do you keep yourself and your kids steady during this time? I mentioned the principal of our middle school reminding us to have grace with ourselves, our kids and our teachers right now. She has told us not to worry about GPAs and perfection, but to put our children's mental health first. There are so many children who don't have Internet access, so many parents who still have to leave home and go to work, so many single parents trying to do everything. We will be okay if some of this school work falls through the cracks a bit. What shouldn't fall through is a little time to laugh. How are you doing it? What joy are you finding in the folds of the day? How are you keeping your children going? And you? Sending you strength as you stay together, stay home and stay well. And come chat with Meghan Leahy this Wednesday. She'll have some wise words and thoughts for you, not only related to parenting during coronavirus, but also the usual issues we face as we're trying to raise little beings into semi-functional, happy and healthy adults. You can ask your questions now. |
